Black Panther

Students discuss the new Marvel movie, Black Panther.

Black Panther (2018) has shattered a slew of records in Marvel history this past weekend. Early numbers leading up to the release of the movie projected it would make $100-$120 million on its opening weekend. As sales grew, those humble numbers quickly faded, sales reaching $170 million a few days before the movie hit theatres. “I think the movie was most popular because of the action, like how the Black Panther jumped on the roof of the guy’s car and pulled him out and the car went flying,” sophomore Jesus Hernandez said.

Along with the popularity of the movie, the soundtrack is also becoming more and more well known. With big name song writers such as Kendrick Lamar, Future, The Weeknd, 2 Chainz, and Travis Scott, the number of plays for each song is growing exponentially as the movie debuts all over the world. Because the movie features many moments with really captivating songs, allowing people to listen to the soundtrack on Spotify is a huge plus for the artists.

Between social media and regular school life, the cause of the popularity of Black Panther has been widely debated. “I think Black Panther is so popular because it’s an all black cast and there aren’t many movies with all black casts,” junior Zaida Williams said. “It was pretty ‘effing awesome.”
