It is, in fact, what all the buzz is about

The Beekeeping Club is a new club at Hickman, and although it’s still not technically an official club yet, once it gets approved, it will make Hickman High the first school in Missouri that allows the students to interact with bees. Beekeeping is the science of raising bees for a hobby or profit, and it exists with good reason, too: Bees are one of the most important animals in the world. Multiple studies have shown they are responsible for pollinating 80% of the world’s crops. and without them, many fruits, trees, and vegetables would not exist.

The idea for this club came from students that expressed interest in learning more about bees and their role in nature, since bees have gotten so much press regarding their importance and preservation. The beekeeping club will provide a healthy environment where students will be able to interact directly with bees, extract honey, help each other, and learn the art of this science.

“This is a really environmentally important thing, but you also get the cool factor of harvesting honey, and you get to be a part of a group of people that really want to help each other, and I don’t know if [this is true for] every other group or every other hobby, but in beekeeping you always find people that are super supportive and want to help other people learn,” says Mrs. Barnes, the club’s sponsor. There are no requisites to join this club, and to get further information or be part of the club, just attend one of the meetings on the first Thursday of every month in room 229 after school.
