After reducing educational funding for education earlier this year due to COVID-19, Governor Parson has provided 100 million dollars to education as part of the Show Me Strong Recovery Plan, or SMSRP for short.
The exact list of funding is as follows:
61.5 million for CARE Act funds for elementary and secondary education (middle and high schools),
26 million for higher education,
and an additional 10 million for private colleges and universities.
Higher education commissioner Zora Mulligan said in a statement: “Our colleges across the state have worked immensely hard to get students back to learning in a safe manner… Adapting to this pandemic has caused a financial burden on many institutions, including Missouri’s private schools. All students should be able to have the support they need to during this time, so we are pleased to see CARES Act funding being allocated for this purpose.” According to the Columbia Missourian, Chancellor of MU Mun Choi said in a press release: “We can’t think of a more important endeavor than the education of new leaders and supporting new health breakthroughs.’’
