My quintessential Acola moment was the beginning of my junior year of high school when I needed to write my oratory for speech and debate. I may have procrastinated a little and needed to research for and write a 10-minute speech in one day.
I ordered my favorite iced coffee, a blackberry lavender latte, and sat in the quietest room facing the parking lot. The next four hours consisted of me sipping on my coffee, writing research questions, and banging on my laptop keys until I finally finished my speech.
When I performed the speech at practice the next week, the captains of the team complimented me on how much time and effort I had put into my speech. It was then that I knew that it was Acola coffee and me against the world.
While I am hesitant to give up my greatest studying secret, I offer up this story to Hickman in the hopes that Acola can save them too. I will graduate in May and move on, but hopefully the study cramming at Acola lives past my time at Hickman.
From essays to slides presentations, Acola Coffee Company provides the perfect balance of imagination and focus, making it the best study location for creative final projects.
The building Acola is located in, right across from Columbia College, is what was formerly Three Story Coffee. When the space was bought and became Acola, the interior got a refresh, but the coffee remained exemplary.
Acola has also diversified outside of coffees and pastries. In February of 2024, Eat Crepe Love moved into Acola’s space. Now, one can order a crepe alongside their coffee. There are a wide variety of crepes on the menu with both sweet and savory options.
Similarly, Acola’s drink menu has many options from a classic latte to cold brew to matcha. With so many options, everyone can find something they like at Acola.
Students will feel more motivated to get their work done because at Acola, studying is accompanied by a treat.
Outside of the culinary delicacies offered, the space itself is perfect for creative projects. Acola has majorly expanded its space since taking over from Three Story Coffee. Acola now consists of six rooms and a large balcony. Each room is bedecked with vibrant fiddly figs and simple wooden furniture.
The minimalistic yet elegant decorations allow Acola patrons to feel cozy without being overwhelmed. This atmosphere creates a space that’s neither a dungeon nor a clown house, an often difficult line for coffee shops to walk.
The variety of rooms at Acola are informally separated into different volume levels like a college library. The rooms on the ground floor are meant for socializing with more decorations and louder voices. The upstairs rooms are quieter with the quietest room at the back of the shop.
This is the room where many a paper has been written and many a test has been studied for. Within this room, one is able to put their headphones on and lock in on their work. However, when one needs a break, they still are able to look up and people watch until they feel inspired to continue writing their award-winning paper.
So, this finals season, when you need to get 105% on your English essay, go to Acola to propel you to success.
