Mission statement:

Purple and Gold News is a student-produced news organization dedicated to providing relevant, timely, accurate, balanced, and interesting news to the student body of David H. Hickman High School. The P&G staff writes to inform, entertain, educate and provide multiple perspectives for students, staff, alumni and the wider community. Our student-created and edited news organization understands that journalism and free expression is a “protector of truth” that seeks to prevent abuse. We provide a public forum for student expression on important and prominent issues.

We follow the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics and will not knowingly publish material that is legally obscene, libelous, or intended to cause a material and substantial disruption of school activities. Additionally, as credibility is essential to journalism, we will endeavor to be accurate, fair, impartial, and balanced. However, we will not shy away from controversial or uncomfortable topics that are newsworthy.
