Sophomore Alyx Renner is an extroverted and involved person. Outside of journalism, he is the President of the GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance), the Social Media Manager for the Hickman Improv Club and a member of the Science Olympiad.
“So, big science fan, yeah. I’m in the biomed class,” he said.
As well as science, Alyx is an avid watcher of House M.D., and has watched the entire show over five times. He is also interested in events in the Columbia community, such as local music.
“I go to a lot of … local events. I’m not hard to find. I’m normally doing something out and about. I’m a very large extrovert,” he said.
The Columbia community is not the only one that Alyx is intrigued by, however. He is also interested in learning about and experiencing different cultures.
“I kind of dabble in everything. I like to talk to people. I like to learn about what people are doing and…culture,” he said.
After High School, Alyx would like to go into investigative social work, particularly focusing on trauma in children.
“I really want to go into social work and just help people, but I have a kind of … personal interest in early childhood trauma,” he said.
Alyx writes his own personal projects and is excited to learn more about journalistic writing. This is his first year in Journalism.
“I’m taking it because I find it interesting. I’m a writer, and I like writing,” he said.
Alyx is also eager to do research and investigate things happening around Hickman, both interesting events and issues that should be addressed, and find out what people’s opinions are.
“I like talking to people. I like figuring out how things are happening and their opinions on it, and how we can reflect that into different circumstances…Also how things may look at Hickman…how people are feeling about things, and what that might mean,” he said.
