When JoJo’s Biscuits opened earlier this year, Columbia was captivated by the new restaurant that flipped the script on what traditional breakfast food looks like. From introducing new cooking techniques like braising the restaurant’s carnitas with Coca-Cola, to creating a cinnamon roll biscuit that is, in my eyes, divine, JoJo’s is switching things up.

In the two times I’ve been to JoJo’s so far, I have had two great experiences, and both times the food has been better than good. The first time, I went with my mom, and as an avid pancake fan, I’m excited to report that while JoJo’s is branded as a biscuit restaurant, the pancakes I had were some of the best I’ve ever tasted. I got the blueberry lemon pancake, and the lemon mascarpone it came with was amazing. It gave the pancakes a sweet taste from the blueberry and butter, balanced by a hint of sour from the lemon in the mascarpone. Most times, I lean sweet over savory, but on that same visit we also got the Coca-Cola Pork Carnitas Tacos, which, like the pancakes, took a classic and put a spin on it that didn’t disappoint. The tacos combined the signature cola flavor of the carnitas with the spicier taste of the salsa, eggs, and other toppings. These tacos didn’t miss a beat.
Don’t get me wrong, the biscuits at JoJo’s are also amazing. I’ve tried both the original and the cinnamon roll biscuit, and both were fantastic. Since then, I’ve gone once more, and both the French Toast Pancake and the Huevos Rancheros lived up to the high standard set by my previous dishes.
While food is of utmost importance in a restaurant, quality service and the atmosphere shouldn’t be overlooked. The food aspect at JoJo’s sets a high standard, but the friendly staff, short wait times and warm, well-decorated dining space make the overall experience even better.
JoJo’s Biscuit Co. as a new restaurant in Columbia has flipped the script on breakfast, and I highly suggest going and having breakfast there, trust me, you won’t regret it.
