On Friday, Nov. 14, Hickman hosted the Missouri Student Council Districts, a regional conference designed for students involved in Student Council to share ideas and meet others interested in shaping the future of their schools, and their country. The students enjoyed a welcome assembly from the Hickman Cheer and Dance teams, a party to acknowledge their hard work and dedication, as well as several presentations by various speakers.
“[We] listened to some good speakers to learn…about them and past events,” a Freshman member of Troy Buchanan High School’s student council said.
One speaker that attended the conference was national speaker, trainer, and education consultant, Tei Street, professionally known as “The Amazing” Tei Street. While speaking, she shared experiences of her own life, as well as ideas and instructions to improve the lives and future careers of young people in Government.
“Young people in this nation need to do something that changes the world. If you want to change the circumstances of your school, I dare you to [look] back on the information that you get today at this conference. I dare you to use that information to make your schools better. But you [have] to get out of motion and get into action,” Street said.
Tei Street shared messages of commitment, dedication, self love, and leadership through stories of her own life and experiences. She encouraged students to work hard, and not give up on their goals.
Along with guest speakers, the conference included an idea fair, where students could set up displays to show their own strategies for boosting efficiency among the student council, and tour other school’s strategies.
“We’re getting ideas for our [school], and getting to interact with other people.” a senior member of Bowling Green High School’s student council said.
The Student Council Districts were a great opportunity for dedicated students to learn how to improve their own schools, and to prepare themselves for the future.
“It’s been really encouraging and really motivating to…become a great leader,” a Senior member of Hannibal High School’s student council said.
