P&G member and Hickman High School senior Ashlyn McFarland hasn’t always lived in Columbia.
Moving from Wellsville, Missouri, a town with a population of 1,039 to Columbia, Missouri, a city with a population of 128,879, was a big adjustment for her.
When asked, McFarland said, “The biggest adjustment was all of the kids that were like, smarter than me, had a better education…then coming here is like, oh, there’s kids who had access to a lot more than I did when I was that age, like younger.”
McFarland added that the biggest difference between the two cities is there being “so much of a wider range of people who live their life differently.”
Along with Columbia being a lot bigger than Wellsville, McFarland said that “I feel like I have more opportunities here. And I have more support,” adding that, “I like all of the different views. I like being able to learn from people and also just being able to see very many different perspectives.”
