Freshman feelings

Transitioning from middle school to high school can be a big adjustment for some; the two levels of school have many differences and it can be a lot to handle. For some, freshman year is just another year of school; for others, it’s a bigger deal.

From schedule changes and longer school days to a larger workload and pressure from academics and peers, high school comes with more responsibilities and challenges than middle school did.

Despite it all, some freshmen, like Nadin Choudhary (9), found high school easier than middle school.

“The classes [in high school are] longer than [middle school] so I had more time to do work in classes…I think high school [is] a little easier than middle school,”  Nadin explained.

Even though Nadin felt like high school was easier than middle school, he still felt that he could do better. Nadin set his own goal for his sophomore year of high school.

“Get better grades. I’m gonna be a lot more focused next year,” Nadin said.

With the new high school expectations and responsibilities, freshmen feel the impact. Grades might have mattered in middle school, but they didn’t have as much impact on students as they do in high school.

Aiden Baugh (9) is a student who shares similar views to Nadin.

“Well, my first negative was taking Japanese. I still take it but it was just really hard. It’s not necessarily [a] regret…my regret would probably be not trying as hard as I should have,” Aiden said.

With this, Aiden set a goal for his sophomore year of high school.

“[My goal is] to get good grades, hopefully [I get] straight A’s eventually,” Aiden said.
